We are not staffed primarily by former spies or law enforcement officials who were trained to gather information using either illegal means (spies) or with the power of a badge or arrest warrant (law enforcement). We specialize in talking to people who have no particular reason to want to talk to us: former colleagues of a person being investigated, for instance. Speaking to people in a way that relaxes them and encourages them to talk requires rigorous preparation, even though it may seem as if a conversation is occurring casually or proceeding in a random order.
